What this permits¶

Apache-2.0 is a permissive licence. You may use, modify, and redistribute DoseMetrics, including in commercial and closed-source products, provided you:

retain the copyright notice, this licence, and the NOTICE file contents in redistributed copies;
state significant changes you made to the files; and
do not use ContourAId trademarks without permission.

It also grants an express patent licence from contributors, which the previous Creative Commons licence did not.

Why it changed¶

DoseMetrics was previously released under CC BY-NC-SA 4.0. That licence prohibited commercial use, applied a viral ShareAlike term to anything derived from it, and — being written for creative works rather than software — carried no patent grant. It made DoseMetrics the one package in the ContourAId family that could not be used downstream. Apache-2.0 removes all three problems.
